WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Table Talk SRQ Boardgame Cafe
Let's start with "Table Talk" and where it came from. "I remember playing games at the kitchen table with my family growing up and all the laughing, teasing and fun we had. I always would laugh as all of us grandkids would try to give "hints" to win the games by talking in what we thought was code." This was our family time. The tv was always off, sometimes there would be a radio playing in the background. We had great conversations while creating long lasting memories that I still have today. The best memory that has stuck with me over the past 30+ years is the words "table talk." As I mentioned, as kids we would try to "hint" to our teammates to win. We really didn't realize it was actually "cheating" but my grandfather always would tell us "no table talk" and we would laugh then get quiet. It was always all in fun. "Table Talk" was a word we still use today when the family plays to remember those times with my grandfather.
Table Talk technically does have 2 meanings.
1. When a player hints to their partner which card to play in the next hand. This is usually illegal in all card games.
2. Informal conversations carried on at a table involving meals.
So we decided that ”Table Talk" was perfect for the concept of Table Talk SRQ Boardgame Cafe. We enjoy fun banter but we also provide an establishment designed specifically for games and meals.
It's time we explain why we added SRQ to our name. Contrary to popular belief SRQ does not mean "Sarasota" as some people think. This term has been explained in many media outlets such as the Sarasota Herald Tribune, SRQ Magazine and Hot Clubs SRQ.
SRQ is the airport code for Sarasota-Bradenton Airport which everyone knows. However quoted from a recent article in the Sarasota Herald Tribune "The code has taken on a broader meaning and frequently is used to describe the whole Sarasota-Manatee area." This same information was covered by SRQ Magazine as they explained "As a regional publication committed to the residents and visitors to both Sarasota and Manatee counties,
SRQ resonates “home” and serves as a constant reminder of who and what we proudly represent."
We are the areas first Boardgame Cafe. We want to encompass both counties since there isn't anything like us around. We are 5 miles from the SRQ airport and Sarasota County line. While we are not the only business with a Bradenton address that uses SRQ in our name, we do believe that they, like us, are focused on being a destination for both Sarasota and Bradenton residents and visitors.
